Heating Vent

A heating vent is a means of releasing heat. Heating vent can be as simple as vents used in your home to the vents used in malls and warehouses where the amount of heat generated is of high magnitude.

A Heating vent is used in residential buildings or bungalows can be found in various designs and are made up of wood and metals like cast iron or bronze. Such heating vents can also be fancy to match the interiors of your rooms. Designs such as egg crates, grids, vents with geometric shapes, opera designs and with high craftsmanship are available. The size of the heating vent is calculated based on the traffic in the room and the size of the room. Being hot air is light in weight goes up and gets out of the rooms through these heating vents.

Heating vents are installed in huge buildings for fire protection measures. They are opened in the roof to release the heat developed by the fire inside by the method of buoyancy. They are also called as gravity vents. In the multistoried buildings and malls the heat releasing rate is usually very high. So to endanger the stability of the commodity heat should be vented out.  Heating vents are available in two types

• Drop out panel made up of plastic that shrinks when heat occur.
• Mechanical vent powered by pneumatic actuator, springs or electric motor

A Heating vent are also found with automatic electric dryer used to dry clothes after washing in washing machines. Outlets of these heating vents are connected to the outside atmosphere through a hole made at the top of the buildings. Heating vents of electric dryers have two settings, winter and summer. During winter the hot air coming out of the dryer is not sent out to atmosphere. There will be a baffle to divert the hot air to the rooms to keep them warm. The heat energy present in the air coming from heating vents is used to raise the room temperatures. With this winter setting, power bills can be saved. But with the summer setting of the heating vent the outlet hot air is released to atmosphere.

A Heating vent can also be found in all apparatus that generates heat. A Heating vent is generally provided in most electronic devices. Laptops do have heating vent. For large computers used for servers at data centers heat management is one of the important aspects to consider in designing.
