Heating Pump

Everybody loves to stay in a warm and cozy home. So when you are trying to turn the house into a home the first thing you need to look into is how to keep the home warm! What better way to achieve that than to go in for a heating pump?

There are different types of heat pumps are available in the market. You need to look at different factors before you choose a heating device. You need to look at the insulation of the house. You need to look at the weather patterns of the place. What is the highest and the lowest temperature that the region may experience. And most importantly the heat pump should save you on your utility bills. Once you have all the information about the climate and the insulation of the house you can start your research for the perfect heating pump that you should buy.

There are different types of heating pumps available in the market. They are:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Heat pump air conditioners
  • Mini split heat pump
  • Window heat pump

You will have to decide which one is appropriate for your home. If you are living in moderate climate air source heating pump will be beneficial for you. If you are living in a very cold climate then air source heating pump will not be suitable as it does not work efficiently if the outer air temperature is sub zero.

When you are looking at the heat pump you should look at the SEER and HSFP rating of the pump. SEER that is seasonal energy efficiency rating and HSFP is heating seasonal performance rating. Ideally the SEER should be between 14 and 18 and HSFR should be between 8 and 10.

In order to make your heating pump work efficiently over the years and saving your money, you need to take good care of the heat pump. Proper installation is the key. You should take professional help while installing the heat pump. All the instructions given in the manual should be followed properly. Always clean or change the air filters once a month. Dirty coils, filters and fans reduce the air flow and reduced air flow will affect the efficiency of the pump and may damage it. You should clean the fan after switching the power off. Look at the fins if they are bent then straighten them.

It is also a good idea to call for professional help at least once a year. He will inspect filters, blowers, ducts and coils for any obstruction of air flow. He will find out if there is any duct leakage and seal it. He will check if adequate air flow is maintained and if there is correct refrigerant charge. He will also look at the thermostat operation. He will also look for wear and tear of the unit and take proper action so that the heating pump will keep working smoothly.
